The FAA has proposed Remote ID regulations that would severely hinder recreational drone racers such as myself. This is the comment I submitted to the FAA. The deadline to comment is on March 2, 2020.
It’s difficult to describe the inner turmoil that a drone racer faces when he isn’t doing well in a heat. You know that it will be over in 2 minutes or less, but it’s torture as you wait for the timer to expire so that your public embarrassment will be over.
I was in the Top 16 at the 2019 RDQ MultiGP Sports Class Championship in Daytona, Florida. This mean that I would be racing under the lights in the stadium. Holy. Cow.
We had tons and tons of old props lying around. I had the idea a while ago that we could turn those props into different types of decorations.
Here we were about to compete in a major MultiGP event. I was really excited to be racing again! I didn’t expect to win, so I wasn’t too nervous. But I was also excited to see whether the hard work I had been putting in the previous months would pay off.

This past weekend we had a fun fly at the house of Fedable, another of our friends from Safety Third Racing. We also just converted my 5-inch quads to 6-cell batteries. I was nervous to see if I would be able to adapt quickly.
Launch control is awesome! Our Safety Third crew heard about launch control in Betaflight – and had a series of follies trying to set it up.
